Lidl Connect has become one of Ireland’s fastest-rising mobile searches after Lidl confirmed a new SIM-only service launching on 5 October 2026. The headline offer is €8.99 per month at a “Price for Life” for the first 100,000 eligible customers, but the plan is more useful when the full bundle and its conditions are read together.

The service combines unlimited 5G data, unlimited calls and texts to Irish and UK networks, 50GB of EU and UK roaming data and 100 international minutes to more than 38 countries. It is a rolling monthly plan rather than a long fixed-term contract.

Who gets the €8.99 price?

The launch offer is limited. The published terms say it is available to the first 100,000 customers or until 31 December 2026, whichever condition ends the promotion under the offer rules. The €8.99 rate is available once per Lidl Plus account.

Up to three additional SIMs can be added to the same account at €12.99 per month each. Anyone comparing the plan for a family should therefore calculate the total account cost rather than multiplying €8.99 by every line.

What does ‘Price for Life’ mean?

The phrase is part of Lidl’s limited launch offer and should be read with the plan terms. It does not mean every future mobile service, add-on or additional SIM will cost €8.99. The promotional rate applies to the qualifying launch line under the stated conditions.

As with any telecom offer, customers should save a copy of the terms that apply when they sign up. That is the best reference if the plan changes later.

Unlimited 5G: what should you check?

The bundle is advertised with unlimited 5G data, but 5G still depends on coverage and a compatible device. A phone that supports only 4G will not gain 5G simply by changing SIM.

Coverage also varies by location and indoor conditions. Lidl Connect is delivered with 1GLOBAL and is supported by the eir network in Ireland, so users should compare coverage where they actually live, work and travel rather than judging a plan only by the monthly price.

Roaming and international calls are different

The plan includes 50GB of roaming data in the EU and UK. That is not the same thing as unlimited international data. It also includes 100 international calling minutes per month to more than 38 countries.

Before travelling, check whether your destination is included and what happens after the roaming allowance is used. Roaming rules and international-call allowances answer different questions and should not be treated as one pool.

Physical SIM or eSIM?

Customers can buy a physical Lidl Connect SIM in Lidl stores for €0.99, or choose an eSIM on a compatible device through Lidl Plus. The eSIM route can be quicker because there is no plastic SIM to insert, but not every phone supports eSIM.

If you are moving an existing number, do not cancel the old service before checking the number-porting instructions. Lidl says customers can keep their existing mobile number or choose a new one.

Do you need Lidl Plus?

Yes. Lidl Connect is designed around the Lidl Plus app for sign-up and account management, and the launch offer requires active Lidl Plus membership for users aged 18 or over.

That makes the app part of the service, not merely a discount card. Anyone who prefers to manage a mobile account without a retail app should consider that before switching.

What to compare before moving networks

  1. Check eir-network coverage at your home, workplace and regular routes.
  2. Confirm your phone supports the network features you want, including 5G and eSIM if relevant.
  3. Compare EU/UK roaming needs with the included 50GB allowance.
  4. Check whether 100 international minutes covers the countries you actually call.
  5. Read the porting process before moving your existing number.
  6. Save the promotional terms attached to the €8.99 “Price for Life” offer.

Bottom line

Lidl Connect is unusually aggressive on launch price, especially for a rolling plan with unlimited domestic 5G data and a substantial roaming allowance. The more important question is whether the eir-backed coverage, app-based account model and included roaming match your real use. If they do, the launch offer is easy to understand; if they do not, a lower monthly headline is not enough reason to switch.

RTÉ reported the Irish launch on 28 September, while 1GLOBAL has described the infrastructure partnership that lets Lidl operate as an MVNO. For current customer terms, use Lidl Connect Ireland; for launch context see RTÉ and 1GLOBAL.
